Staying Hungry: Kenny Gravillis

To be an artist in today’s volatile art industry is to embody daring. It is to put one’s personal truth and vision out in the world, to face the whims of changing trends, fickle buyers and misguided interpretations by critics. Yet, to be a successful artist it takes audacity and a unique level of conviction
to go from obscure creativity to the biggest galleries, museums or theaters. Cadillac highlights artists of color who have ventured to the farthest extent of their creativity and now fully embody the ethos: Dare Greatly.

“I can’t imagine not being creative. I don’t think I’ve got a choice in that.”
Kenny Gravillis

Meet Kenny Gravillis, one of four profiled successful artists in Cadillacs Art of Daring program who reveals the motivations and meaning behind their unique creative realms.

Kenny Gravillis was born and raised in East London where he fell in love with the art of cinema. In 1987 he moved to New York City to pursue a career in graphic and art design. He quickly found his niche in the music industry and started out in the art department at an iconic record label where he quickly rose to an executive position designing some of the most memorable album covers for the biggest names in Hip Hop and R&B. However, Kenny never lost his love for film and in 2000, Kenny and his wife/business partner, DeAnna took a daring leap of faith to bring his passion for design and cinema together to launch, Gravillis Inc. In an industry that many find difficult to break into, especially for a person of color, Kenny forged his mark by
keeping his identity a secret allowing his work to speak for itself. Uninhibited by genre or scope, Gravillis Inc. has worked on advertising campaigns for some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry and created many of the most memorable movie poster designs in the industry.Today, Kenny has stepped out of the shadows to be renowned as one of the most prolific and sought-after designers in the entertainment industry.

“My job is to give you that desire… That need to experience something amazing.”
